Planning Your Future: A Personalized Path

At Grandview Heights Schools, we recognize that every student’s journey through and beyond high school is unique. From kindergarten through graduation, we provide opportunities for career awareness, exploration, and planning, empowering students to make informed and intentional choices about their coursework, activities, and experiences. Our goal is for students to see and understand the wide range of pathways available to them, leading to fulfilling careers that reflect their strengths, values, and lifestyle goals.

The 4 Es: Your Options After Graduation

After high school, students’ journeys may include one or more of the following:

  • Enrollment – in a 2- or 4-year college, university, or trade/technical program
  • Employment – entering the workforce, possibly through an apprenticeship
  • Entrepreneurship – starting your own business or pursuing self-employment
  • Enlistment – serving in the Armed Forces

There’s no single path that’s best for everyone. Many students combine options or shift between them over time. What matters is that students are able to envision a path that fits their goals, their potential, and their vision for their life.

Career Exploration/Job Shadowing

As a beginning step toward increased career exploration and planning opportunities, we encourage all high school students to engage in relevant half or full-day job shadowing experiences. In order for these absences to count as excused, students will need to take the following steps:

  1. Talk to or email Mrs. Albeit to get the experience approved.
  2. Turn in a pre-planned absence form to the office.
  3. Complete a short reflection about the experience on SchooLinks.

Our hope is that students will explore careers of interest and see if they are appealing or not based on these real-life experiences. This is a starting block in forming an individualized and aligned postsecondary plan.
