Hitting All the Right Notes

 
On Friday, November 10, 2023, sophomore Liv Glaser (bassoon) performed with the Columbus Youth Symphony Orchestra. Central Ohio’s aspiring young instrumentalists in grades 9-12 perform in this ensemble directed by Associate Conductor of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, Andrés Lopera. The 91-member orchestra has students from 19 high schools in nine counties. Members are selected through a competitive audition process held annually in April/May. The youth orchestra typically performs 3-4 times per year.
 
On Saturday, November 11, 8th grader Mira Bondy (clarinet) and 7th graders Rose Ritzman (alto sax) and Sydney Heren (tenor sax) performed in the Ohio Music Education Association District 15 Middle School Honor Bands. They joined 200 musicians from around central Ohio and had the opportunity to work with world renowned composer and conductor Brian Balmages.
 
On Saturday evening, freshman Max McCollough (horn) performed in the Capital University Honor Band Festival. McCollough auditioned and placed into the top band of three. This is a huge achievement, especially for a freshman competing against students in grades 9-12!
 
On Sunday, November 12, freshman McCollough (horn) performed with the Capital University Junior Winds. This ensemble includes students in grades 8-10 and performs three times throughout the school year. Members are accepted through a rigorous audition process and the band's mission is to provide a quality performing experience for central Ohio's gifted young instrumentalists.
 
Also on Sunday, junior Carmen Cunningham (cello, clarinet) performed with the Columbus Symphony Repertory Orchestra. The goal of this ensemble is to emphasize the performance of traditional orchestral literature under the leadership and coaching of professional musicians. The repertory orchestra also performs 3-4 times per year and members are selected through a competitive audition process held annually in April/May.
