An Important Message from
Superintendent Andy Culp and CFO/Treasurer Beth Collier
Dear Grandview Heights Schools Families and Community Members,
As conversations continue in Columbus about property tax reform, I want to bring to your attention a proposal that could have serious and lasting consequences for our schools and community.
House Bill 335 (HB 335), currently under consideration for inclusion in the state budget, proposes a sweeping overhaul of Ohio’s property tax system. If passed, this legislation would eliminate unvoted inside millage, ban new emergency and substitute levies, and give county budget commissions the authority to override voter-approved levies. Importantly, the proposal includes no plan to replace the revenue that school districts would lose.
For Grandview Heights Schools, the impact is clear and devastating: we stand to lose an estimated $2.7 million annually in operating revenue. These are the dollars we use every day to fund teachers, maintain small class sizes, provide student services, and support academics. It could also impact our ability to continue to provide extracurriculars, all day kindergarten, and AP exams at no additional cost to families, and to have no school fees. Losing this amount of funding would directly affect the quality of education we provide.
Let me be clear: We support meaningful property tax relief for Ohio families. But HB 335 is not thoughtful reform—it is disinvestment in public education.
Now is the time to speak up. I encourage you to contact your legislators and ask them to reject HB 335 and its inclusion in the state budget.
