Ohio's lawmakers are currently debating changes to school funding and property tax laws that could deeply impact our schools and our students. We need your voice now more than ever!
What’s at stake:
- Public School Funding: Proposed changes could reduce our annual tax revenue by $2.7 million, more than 10% of our annual operating budget, weakening our financial stability and jeopardizing resources we depend on for classrooms, teachers, and programs our community expects.
- Local Control: Changes could restrict our local school board’s ability to plan for the future and make decisions that best serve our local community, including earmarking more than $1 million annually from Grandview Yard to provide tax relief to our taxpayers.
- Property Tax Reform: While tax relief is important, new proposals could make it more difficult for school districts to secure needed funding.
What we’re asking for:
- Protect school funding by ensuring any tax reform doesn't take money away from our schools.
- Remove arbitrary limits on school district cash balances which would require school districts to return to voters more frequently for levy requests.
- Preserve local decision-making and the ability for communities to support schools through voter-approved tax levies.
Take Action
Please contact members of the HB 96 Conference Committee and urge them to:
- Support stable and fair funding for public schools
- Keep decisions local
- Protect students, not politics
