Late last night (June 30, 2025), Governor Mike DeWine signed Ohio’s biennial budget bill (HB 96), just ahead of the midnight deadline.
We are pleased to share that the Governor vetoed several provisions with serious implications for public education, including the proposed cap on cash balance carryovers, the move toward partisan school board elections, and changes that would have limited local property tax levies. These vetoes help preserve essential tools that districts like Grandview Heights Schools use to manage resources responsibly and support student learning.
We are especially grateful to the Grandview Heights community. Your advocacy—through phone calls, emails, and conversations—made a real difference. During a difficult budget cycle, your efforts helped protect local control and the financial stability our schools rely on to serve students well.
The Governor also announced plans to form a statewide working group focused on property tax reform. This issue will remain front and center in the coming months. We will continue to advocate for policies that respect local decision-making and ensure that our community retains a strong voice in how public schools are funded.
Thank you for standing with Grandview Heights Schools. Your continued support demonstrates the strength of our community’s commitment to public education—and to the students and families who depend on it every day.
Sincerely,
Andy Culp, Superintendent
Beth Collier, Treasurer/CFO
