Grandview Heights Schools would like to share an important update regarding state legislation that may impact how Grandview Heights Schools manages your tax dollars.
Governor Mike DeWine recently vetoed several provisions in the state budget related to school property taxes. Now, the Ohio Legislature has announced plans to return to Columbus later this month to consider overriding those vetoes.
Two provisions are especially concerning:
1. Cap on District Carryover Funds
One proposal would limit the amount of money school districts can carry over from year to year. While this particular veto is not currently a top priority for override, it could still move forward, which is why we remain watchful. Local control of our carryover balance at Grandview Heights Schools enables us to plan responsibly, protect our schools during uncertain times, and invest wisely in our future.
2. Expanded County Budget Commission Oversight
This provision would shift more control over school tax decisions from local voters and elected boards to the County Budget Commission. That means less local control—even over levies that have already been approved by the community.
Both measures would undermine the sound financial planning we’ve worked hard to maintain in Grandview Heights Schools. We’ll continue advocating for local control and responsible funding practices—and we’ll keep you updated.
Sincerely,
Andy Culp, Superintendent
