Grandview Heights High School has announced the hiring of Karen Brothers as the school's High School Guidance Counselor for the upcoming academic year. Brothers joins the district under a one-year agreement, stepping in to provide vital leadership and continuity for the student body following the heartbreaking and sudden passing of beloved counselor Bryan Stork.
Brothers brings nearly forty years of educational, counseling, and leadership experience to the district during this deeply emotional transition.
"Our entire Bobcat community is mourning the devastating loss of Bryan Stork, who was deeply loved by our students, staff, and families," said Principal Sam Belk. "While nobody can replace Bryan, we are incredibly fortunate to welcome an educator of Karen’s immense caliber and heart to support our school this year. Her deep expertise in high school counseling and crisis intervention will provide a steady, compassionate hand to guide our community through this difficult time."
Brothers is a widely respected leader in school counseling and student advocacy throughout Central Ohio, recognized for her unwavering commitment to academic excellence and disability-inclusive education. During nearly two decades as a School Counselor at Dublin Coffman High School (2002–2021), she developed extensive expertise in every aspect of student support, including social-emotional counseling, master schedule development, and college and career readiness. A pioneer in inclusive education, Brothers authored the Peer Collaboration Manual, which was registered with the Library of Congress in 2013, and has trained educators across dozens of Ohio school districts on implementing successful peer mentorship and inclusion programs. Her leadership and service have earned numerous honors, including induction into the Dublin Coffman High School Staff Hall of Fame in 2016 and multiple Dublin Community Champions Awards. Brothers also holds three Magna Cum Laude degrees: a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts from The Ohio State University, as well as a Master of Science in Education and Allied Professions from the University of Dayton.
Her one-year appointment ensures Grandview Heights students will receive world-class, seasoned guidance and emotional support during this pivotal school year. Please join Principal Belk and the administration in warmly welcoming Karen Brothers to the Grandview Heights family as we honor Mr. Stork’s memory and care for our students.
