Mentoring Matters

Grandview Heights High School senior and mentor Josie Martina and Stevenson Elementary student and mentee Nick Hayes were one of 13 matches statewide honored for their unique and positive mentoring relationship at the 13th Annual Mentoring Month Celebration hosted by The Mentoring Center of Central Ohio on January 21, 2014, at the Statehouse. Pictured with Martina and Hayes is Bryan Stork, Grandview Heights High School Guidance Counselor.

Martina and Hayes participate in the TriVillage Mentor League's Mentoring & More after-school program on Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. at Stevenson Elementary School. The pair has been matched for three years and spend time together playing games, making crafts, and building a special friendship in a supervised setting.

The TriVillage Mentor League offers a variety of mentoring-related experiences to school-age children in partnership with teen and adult volunteers to promote well-being and volunteerism.The Mentoring & More after-school program matches elementary school-age children with high school student mentors. Over the course of the school year, teen mentors and children spend time together participating in a variety of activities to build a positive and supportive friendship.
