Celebratory Start

What a great start to the new year!  As part of initiating the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) framework, Edison Intermediate/Larry Larson Middle School celebrated its first day of school with activities focused on increasing a sense of community among the building.

Students began the morning with their homeroom teachers and then shifted to the gym where Principal Bob Baeslack introduced every staff member.  Students then made their way to their assigned Bobcat Group of 8-10 students which was facilitated by a staff member.  Bobcat Groups rotated activities that utilized teamwork, communication, and cooperation skills to complete tasks.  Students also actively displayed the five behavioral expectations (Caring, Honest, Respectful, Responsible, and Safe) through a door decorating activity.

The PTO coordinated a lunchtime cookout with the help of Food Services.  Andrew Feast, one of the parents, served as the lunchtime DJ as kids and staff danced.  Afternoon activities included more rotation stations and ended in homeroom.  Bobcat Groups will continue to meet throughout the academic year to increase a sense of community across fourth through eighth grade. We look forward to using these multi-grade groups to provide mentoring opportunities as well to the students.
