Edison Intermediate School fifth grade students are using technology to build oral reading fluency. Students use the recording feature of their classroom iPads while reading aloud to capture their spoken words. They then listen to their words and mark down any mistakes they made. This activity teaches students to monitor their own progress and set goals for improvement. Teachers use the recordings as a formative assessment to design instruction that is responsive to the individual needs of each student.
