A New 5columns Project

On Monday, August 13th, at 5:30 p.m. Grandview Heights Schools will officially launch the next 5Columns Project at the corner of West First Avenue and Oxley Road on the lawn of Stevenson Elementary during its annual beginning of the year Ice Cream Social.

Our latest project is a collaboration between third grade teacher Elizabeth Page, the 5columns Project, and Ernie Parke, who is part of OSU’s STEM Exploration & Engagement Scholars. The next 5columns Project will be created by parents and children collaboratively.

Using threads and fiber optics to represent connections, we illustrate our awareness of important topics including:

  • Kindness: I have been kind to someone when they needed it most.
  • Being an upstander: I have stood up for a friend.
  • Individuality: I struggle with something that comes easily to others.
  • Perseverance: I keep trying when something is hard.
  • Inclusion: I include others.

We have designed the process to be intentionally thought provoking. The installation will continue until September and we welcome you to view the installation and via your media share the story with central Ohio.

5columns.org brings together artists and students to create interactive, surprising, and joyful art projects to engage and impact the greater community. The Columns act as a platform for these cross-curriculum educational creations and has succeeded in bringing together the Grandview Heights Schools with the wider community through its installations.

5Columns Project sponsors include the Grandview Heights Schools, the City of Grandview Heights, the Grandview Heights/Marble Cliff Education Foundation, the Ohio Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
