Volunteer Information

Providing a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff is a district priority. In keeping with this standard, the Board of Education has adopted policies and regulations governing the volunteer process. Grandview Heights Schools greatly appreciates its volunteers and the key role they play in adding value to our students' educational experience. Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

What is the process to become a volunteer? Volunteers must first undergo a background check. We offer two background check options: BCI/FBI and Secure Volunteer. Volunteers can determine which background check will best suit their volunteer goals.

A BCI/FBI background check is required if volunteering on-site or off-site might allow the volunteer to be alone with students without a staff member present. Examples include:

Field trips to the zoo, COSI, a museum, etc.,
Lego League or Science Olympiad Coach
Band Camp chaperone
Chaperoning overnight field trips

BCI/FBI background checks are:

Conducted in the District Administration Office and easily scheduled
Free of charge
Good for five (5) years
Contact Hayley Head, Executive Assistant to the Superintendent, at 614-485-4015 to schedule an appointment

Secure Volunteer is a customer-friendly, convenient, web-based process to background check school volunteers. This background check is appropriate and required for volunteer service when in the presence of a staff member. Examples include:

Classroom or on-site volunteer
Wellness Day, All Arts Day, Science Day, Field Day, etc.

Secure Volunteer background checks are:

Completed online
Free of charge
Good for three (3) years
Once completed, Secure Volunteer mails a confirmation letter and wallet card to the volunteer with name, school district, and background expiration date
Secure Volunteer sends an email notification when the background check expires

As background checks are processed and approved, the two approved volunteer lists will be updated and attached to this page for easy reference.
