Grandview Heights Schools takes cybersecurity seriously. Protecting our systems, staff, and students from digital threats is a shared responsibility across the district. We use multiple layers of protection, including secure networks, threat monitoring, and staff training on best practices.

Our partnership with other educational technology organizations helps us identify risks, strengthen defenses, and provide cybersecurity education to staff and students. We also encourage families to practice safe online habits at home, such as using strong passwords, updating devices, and being cautious about what information is shared online.

Overview

• Grades K-1: iPads support early learning with an intuitive interface.
• Grades 2-12: Chromebooks enable collaboration, research, and digital content creation.
• Device Refresh Cycle: A sustainable replacement plan ensures students have up-to-date devices. New Chromebooks are distributed in grades 1, 4, 7, and 10.  Students keep and their assigned device for three-years.

Student privacy is central to our technology practices. Grandview Heights Schools complies with all federal and state laws that protect student information, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

We only collect and share data necessary to support learning and district operations. Before approving digital tools for classroom use, we ensure each one meets strict privacy and security standards. Our district is an active member of the EdTech Leadership Alliance (ETLA) and the Student Data Privacy Consortium (SDPC), which help us evaluate and maintain compliant agreements with educational technology providers.

Grandview Heights Schools provides technology support for students, staff, and families. Whether you need help with a district-issued device, software, or network connectivity, our Technology Support Team is here to assist.

 

Getting Technology Support

• Help Desk: Staff can submit a support ticket for device issues, software troubleshooting, or general IT assistance.
• Walk-In Support: Students and staff can visit the Tech Resource Office for in-person troubleshooting.

 

1. Report the Issue: Students should inform their teacher and demonstrate the problem.
2. Teacher Assistance: If the issue prevents normal use (e.g., no power, broken screen), the teacher may provide a classroom loaner device.
3. Request Support: The teacher will then create a support ticket or direct the student to the GHHS Media Center for further assistance.
4. Device Replacement: The technology department will determine if a replacement device is needed.

If a loaner has the same issue as the original device, the problem may be linked to account settings, apps, or extensions rather than hardware. The Technology Department will work with the student to identify and resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

This Notice serves as the Grandview Heights School’s annual technology privacy notice consistent with Ohio Revised Code Sections 3319.325 - .327. 

General Monitoring of School-Issued Devices 

Please be aware that the Grandview Heights Schools, either directly or through a technology provider, is electing to generally monitor all school-issued devices (as that term is defined by R.C.  3319.325). The monitoring will include the following features: location tracking and student interactions with school-issued devices (e.g., keystrokes and web-browsing  activity). The District generally monitors these features for the noncommercial education  purpose of instruction, technical support, and/or exam proctoring. Additionally, these features are generally monitored as a necessary precaution for preventing and/or responding to threats to life or safety.
