Business and Computer Science

IT and Business
All courses are open to students in grades 9-12.

  • Financial Literacy: explore personal financial management topics; careers, employment, income, taxes, budgeting, banking, loans, saving, investing and insurance; satisfies the Ohio Financial Literacy graduation requirement  

  • Digital Design: course units include graphics, video, audio and web development; creativity, communication, problem solving, teamwork and design process skills are integrated into the course activities

  • Digital Design 2: build your own course in one or more of the following topics: visual design, video, audio, web development, computer science; areas of emphasis: creativity, communication and the design process (students can enroll in multiple semesters throughout grades 9-12)

  • Communications - The Word (ghword.com): join the school news team, develop communication skills, nonfiction storytelling, video and audio production, visual communication (students can enroll in multiple semesters throughout grades 9-12)

  • AP Business and Personal Finance (full-year): explore entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, accounting, and management through real-world business applications, case studies, and project based learning; learn and apply financial literacy concepts; satisfies the Ohio Financial Literacy graduation requirement; college credit potential; 5-point grade scale; opportunity to earn an employer-endorsed credential in business (College Board Description)

  • AP Computer Science Principles (full-year): intro to computer science; build programs and explore the creative and societal aspects of computer science - algorithms, abstraction, data, the internet and cybersecurity; the AP exam will be completed at school (this includes a program project, multiple choice test and free response questions); college credit potential; 5-point grade scale (prerequisite: Algebra I, College Board Description)
 
Badges
  • Earn a digital badge to display on LinkedIn (or other platforms) by completing a 4 semester custom pathway which includes at least 3 elective courses (with a grade of C or higher in each class). Badges: Communications, Digital Design, Computer Science or Business

  • Communications: Digital Design > Digital Design 2 > Communications (2 semesters)

  • Digital Design: Digital Design > Communications > Digital Design 2 (2 semesters)  

  • Computer Science: Digital Design > Digital Design 2 > Communications > AP Computer Science Principles

  • Business: Communications > CCP or Independent Study in Business  > AP Business and Personal Finance

Ohio Technology Seal (complete one of the following)

  • Earn a score of 3 or higher on the AP Computer Science Principles Exam

  • Earn a grade of B or higher in both Digital Design and Digital Design 2 (one semester each)
